Basketball Games and Training

Basketball games and training is a supervised program. Youth will play games and have fun in a competitive and social environment. Youth will be placed in groups by age and play games each day of the week.

Who: Co-ed ages 6 – 12
When: Monday – Friday
Ongoing (Except holidays and HRC Special Events)
Time: 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Where: HRC Basketball Courts
Fee: Free to members only – Drop in

Kids Yoga

Kids Yoga is a fun, creative approach to yoga that can be very helpful for children whose bodies are still developing. The use of animated poses and basic stretching exercises promote strength, flexibility, coordination and body awareness. Breathing and visualization techniques teach kids how to focus, relax and develop self-control.

The Kids Yoga Program also promotes inner-strength, confidence and self-esteem; a feeling of well-being and respect for others; and, love for one’s self, inside and out.

When: Tuesday’s/Ongoing (except holidays)

GET FIT

The Get Fit program is designed to promote a healthy lifestyle. Participants will engage in physical activity, and learn about a new health topic every week. 15 minutes of every session is dedicated to a health topic and 45 minutes incorporates aspects of physical activity such as: core strength, taking a heart rate, circuit training, balance, stability, strength, weight management, endurance, speed and agility. Pre-registration is required; space is limited.

Who: Co-ed ages 6 – 14
When: Monday & Wednesday
Fall: Session 1: September 3 – December 17, 2014
Winter: Session 2: January 5 – April 1, 2015
Time: 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Where: HRC Track / New Kids Fitness Room
Fee: Free to members / $30 per month non-members

 

Kids Zumba

Let’s get moving! Kids love to dance, wiggle and sing along to great songs. The participants will get their bodies moving and grooving to Latin, hip-hop, country, children’s Disney favorites, and many various international dance rhythms. This is a fun and easy to follow fitness program. *Gym shoes and pre-registration required; space is limited.

HYPE Fit for Special Needs

HYPE provides creative, nurturing environments for youth with disabilities ages 5 to 22, to develop key life skills, build confidence and of course, have fun!

The major program goals include helping participants:

  • Increase functional communication to convey wants and needs in an appropriate manner.
  • Improve social skills to engage in appropriate interactions with others by decreasing negative behavior and increasing appropriate behavior.
  • Develop life skills to achieve greater independence by using skills-based, functional skills in natural settings in response to natural cues.
  • Improve and practice healthy living including participating in exercise, fitness, and active lifestyle activities and making healthy food and quantity choices to enhance overall health.

Programs include: Wheel Chair Basketball, Get Fit class for all, recreational games, tumbling and much more.

Who: Co-ed ages 5 – 22
When: Fall: Friday’s, September 11 – November 20, 2015
Winter: Friday’s, January 8 – March, 18 2016
Where: HYPE Recreation Center
