Thank you for considering HYPE as a place to donate your time and talents. Volunteers are vital to HYPE. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to meet the needs of the kids, families, and adults who live in our community. A variety of volunteer opportunities are available, so we are able to match your interests with our needs in most cases. Please note that volunteers must be at least 16 years of age.HYPE volunteers do many things—here are some examples of how you can get involved:
- Care for kids at day camp, in drop-off child care or after school
- Coach sports teams
- Create a safe environment on the fitness floor or in the gym
- Greet and assist members at the front desk
- Facilitate special-interest groups and activities
- Help with fundraising efforts
- Mentor or tutor young people
- Teach fitness skills and healthy living practices

How do I get started?
You can browse current volunteer opportunities online, contact us, or call HYPE and ask for the volunteer coordinator to get started. They’ll give you more information about current volunteer opportunities and get you started. For most volunteer opportunities, an application, orientation, references and a background screen are required.
Does HYPE offer training?
We are excited about engaging volunteers at HYPE, and making sure our volunteers have the tools and training to make an impact. After a volunteer has completed orientation and made a commitment to HYPE, a staff member will discuss training opportunities that match the interest of the volunteer and meets the needs of HYPE.
How old do HYPE volunteers need to be?
To volunteer at HYPE you must be 18 years or older; 16 to 18 years old with parental permission; or, if under 16 years of age, you may volunteer with the permission and in the presence of a parent or guardian.
Does HYPE accept court-ordered community service?
WE do accept any court-ordered community service from courts or probation officers. We also allow school-based required community service in alignment with opportunities and the policies above.
